As the nation prepares for the height of the festivities, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force is reminding the public of the strict “no glass bottle policy” in effect for Carnival 2026.

Sergeant of Police Mr. Edson Smith, who heads the public relations and complaints department, issued a formal reminder to all revelers, patrons, and observers to adhere to the long-standing regulation. The policy, which has been a staple of the celebrations since 2006, designates specific carnival venues and zones as “no glass bottle zones”.

The primary objective of the ban is to ensure public safety during a season characterized by high energy and alcohol consumption. Sergeant Smith explained that the measure is intended to prevent accidents, incidents of violence, and public panic, ensuring a “mishap-free” environment for everyone.

“This is to ensure that we are safe. This is to ensure that there are no incidents or accidents… carnival is a period where we are alcoholically merry,” Sergeant Smith stated, emphasizing that the collective safety of participants is the priority.

Authorities are asking the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers stationed throughout the designated zones. In the event that an individual is found with a glass bottle, they may be formally asked by police to surrender the item. Sergeant Smith urged citizens and visitors alike to comply with these requests and respect the work of the police to maintain order.

The police force expressed their hope that the 2026 season will allow everyone to safely enjoy the rich culture and offerings of the country. “We want you to enjoy all that our culture and our country has to offer and we hope that this 2026 as usual is an incident and event well mishap-free carnival,” Smith concluded.
