Questelles Police Youth Club Public Speaking Competition

On April 28th, 2018, the Questelles Police Youth Club held its first Public Speaking Competition at the Questelles Learning Resource Centre.

This event brought the curtains down on a series of other activities which included panel discussions on Crime and Violence, Juvenile Delinquency and Juvenile Justice System organized by the Police Youth Clubs throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

At the beginning of the event, brief remarks were delivered by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Jomo Thomas and Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. John Ballah.

Thomas expressed elation about the event and commended the Police Youth Clubs for taking such an initiative.

ASP Ballah stated that the public speaking competition was just another forum where the Police continue to maintain rapport and partnership with members of the general public. He also thanked the participants for their bravery and parents and members of the community for supporting the young people.

There were five (5) participants in the competition namely: Mr. Jamari Jack, Omari Dennie, Lander Wallace, Raphica Scott, and Kyle Neverson who represented the Questelles Police Youth Club, Campden Park Adolescent Group, Questelles Evangelical Church, Campden Park Wesleyan Holiness Church and the Bethel High School respectively. They spoke on the topic “Does the Trend of Contemporary Modern-day Types of Music Have a Strong Positive Influence on the Young Generation of Today?”

At the culmination of the event, Mr. Omari Dennie, who represented the Campden Park Adolescent Group was declared as the winner; Lander Wallace placed second, Jamari Jack, third; while Raphica Scott won the Impromptu speech category.
