Time after time, questions have been raised in many quarters, by many persons of the corporate and social responsibility of the various private sector entities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, or in fact any other country.
There are business entities no matter their sales, no matter the vibrancy of the economy, these business entities would find the resources to assist needy persons, especially children. One of those business entities is the 8-month-old Logistics Plus Inc., situated in the Marcole Plaza in Kingstown.
As Mrs. Julene McIntosh the Sales and Marketing Officer said, “The greatest gift to our community would be when we contribute to making lives better. The act of giving has had tremendous effects on the success of humanity.”
Following an encounter earlier this year, Managing Director of Logistics Plus Inc. J-Kwon Freeman came up with the idea of assisting a student or two. At the time of conceptualising the idea which coined ‘A Random Act of Kindness’, Freeman said that “we must look to assist those kids who at times face difficulties of one kind or another in attending school, or which affects their ability to attend school.”
He said that such a programme should not be the responsibility of just one entity, but a collaborative effort. “We will have to partner with other business people in St. Vincent (and the Grenadines) for the today there are parents who are unable to meet their responsibilities through no fault of theirs. It is just that they are unable to have what is needed.”
Partners were sought in the venture, and a number of private sector entities welcome the initiative. These entities understood that by a collaborative effort, “making small contributions, the bigger whole would be achieved and the students would be able to receive assistance.”
From haircuts, to the basic needs of students such as notebooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, bags, water bottles, shoes, and many other needs were donated to Logistics Plus Inc., to the value of almost EC$2,000.00, “to ease the strain on parents.”
Head of Operations at Logistics Plus Inc. Mrs Shennika Simmons stated: “The Random Act of Kindness is a gesture geared towards giving back to the society’s children. Our motto at Logistics Plus is that ‘we are small enough to care and big enough to deliver’.
“Although we are a young company, we were able to search around and find children to whom we have been able to extend our care for by trying to meet their simple needs and assisting them to go back to school.
“Seeing smiles upon the children and parents faces brought such joy to our hearts, we could tell how happy they were, to be able to receive such kindness geared towards them.”
Mrs McIntosh pointed out that: “Charity has not only created positive impact on the recipients of goods, material, money or volunteered time but also on the donors of such charitable donations. Our Random Act of Kindness programme is geared to helping, and has helped kids in need.
“The underlying purpose is to improve the life and living conditions of these kids. The act of giving regardless of whether it is a small act of generosity or in what way possible, are carried out to alleviate poverty.
Logistics Plus and it partners Random Act of Kindness programme serves be an effective purpose in society.”
On Wednesday September 05, 2018, three students received the first contributions. The fourth student who was absent, will receive their donations as soon as the parent can present herself at the office. A number of partners were present at Wednesday’s ceremony representing KFC, and Going Places. Many of the other partners were unable to make it, but has pledge their continued support for this worthwhile venture.
As Logistics Plus Inc. Managing Director J-Kwon Freeman pointed out: “You who are here today brings pleasure to us for it is persons like who demands that the humanity in us come out. It is parents like you who try despite the circumstances to raise your children in a manner to make them and others proud to be part of this country, to be part of a large family.
“Logistics Plus Inc. is a young company seeking not just to provide a service second to none, but to provide assistance in a small way to those who are not just deserving, but are in need.
“I am looking forward to those companies who gave their assurance that they will be making contributions, for when we all put our small bits and pieces together, we will have more to give.
The parents who were present were most pleased with the assistance, expressing their appreciation for what the collaboration between business entities was able to achieve.
“We want to make sure that the students can attend school, so by we doing our little bit, the parents taking what we give them, these students will be able to attend school. Also when we give it is to show appreciation to those who have made us who we are today. Life is about giving and sharing,” Freeman added.
