Remembering Malcolm Marshall

Malcom Marshall

On a dog day afternoon, When the sun was baking, You appeared on the screen, Like thunder and lightning, Like a cool, summer breeze, You provided us with relief: Like rain falling from the sky, On our parched Planet Earth. You were shorter but deadly, Even on unhelpful tracks and pitches:

Clive and Viv relied on you

To go out there and make the kill.

You moved in stealthily like a

Passionate soldier in an army drill.

Thus, Border danced to your tune, Gower had to pray to the moon, Imran was in tears and tatters, Boycott talked non-stop like a mad hatter, Shastri could not answer your question, You taught the Chappell brothers a lesson, They would never forget: You bowled bouncers and beamers Without any regrets. And, one by one, the wickets fell, You were like the devil from hell, And we had a story to tell our grandchildren.

Alas, our good and dear Lord stole you away, Too soon, and you were gone forever, our Soul brother, and that is why I created this Song, especially for you, dearest Malcolm: Decades later, I still remember your smile, Frozen like icicles in space and time, your Memory has aged like fine wine. Thank You, Marshall, for adding value to our lives, The world of cricket lost a cherished prize.
