Sergeant Calvin Cockburn of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has died following injuries sustained in a traffic accident at La Croix, St. Vincent. At the time of the crash, Cockburn was on leave in his home country.
The fatal collision occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at approximately 2:26 p.m. along the La Croix public road. Preliminary investigations by the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force indicate that an omnibus driven by Garvin Brown, a 59-year-old chauffeur of Greiggs, was traveling toward the Mesopotamia Police Station when it went over an embankment. The bus sustained extensive damage in the crash.
The driver, conductor, and all passengers aboard the omnibus sustained injuries. The majority of the injured persons were treated at the Levi Latham Health Centre and subsequently discharged. The driver and three passengers were admitted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Sergeant Cockburn succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
Sergeant Cockburn served in law enforcement across both St. Vincent and the Virgin Islands. Within the RVIPF, he served in several key areas, including Beat & Patrol, the Major Incident team, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Cockburn was expected to retire sometime this year.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
