40-year-old Conrad Edwards from the community of Sandy Bay has been ordered to spend the next four years at the Belle Isle Correctional Facility on a charge of possession of ammunition without the relevant license on September 19th, 2017 in the area of Coreas Car Park in capital Kingstown.

Conrad Edwards was charged jointly with Franklyn Edwards, however while Franklyn was acquitted Conrad was found guilty by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne on Tuesday June 12th after she delivered her written decision on the matter.

Both defendants were arrested and charged by Law Enforcement Officer from the Rapid Response Unit Special Patrol and the Narcotic Division.

They at the time were engaged in a joint operation in and around Kingstown when the defendants arrived in two vehicles.

Searches were conducted on both vehicles and the ammunition was discovered in one of the vehicles under the driver’s seat in a black plastic bag.

In mitigation Lawyer, Israel Bruce who represented Edwards requested of the Court not to impose a custodial sentence stating that there has been a reduction in gun-related offences.

However Senior Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche differed and stated that while the offense is not one of firearm that where there is ammunition there is a probability that a gun is somewhere and the Court of Appeal has taken a strong view regarding gun and ammunition related offences and as a result he recommended a  custodial sentence which was accepted by the Chief Magistrate.
