This country’s Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnette has indicated his intention to officially pay a visit to the Belle Isle Correctional Facility very soon.
He made his intentions clear on Monday, 10th December, 2018, when a male prisoner who is currently on remand appeared before him at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court and requested that he be given his own bail for a domestic offence.
When asked why he wanted his own bail by the Magistrate, the prisoner in his response said, last weekend he was attacked and beaten by fellow inmates who also attempted to poison him and that he is fearful for his life.
The Senior Magistrate then informed the prosecution that the reason for his proposed visit is to get a first-hand view of the operation and condition of the facility and no one will know when he does so.
The prisoner’s matter which was scheduled to be heard on the December 20, 2018, has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
