Veteran cyclist Leroy Constantine, at age 70, continued his record-breaking performances on Monday, April 5th when he completed the challenging climb of Maroon Hill at Greiggs, South Central Windward, in a time of 7 minutes 15 seconds.
Constantine was able to shave 44 seconds off the 7 minutes 59 seconds timing recorded in 2017 in the challenging uphill course over a distance of approximately half-mile.
Before completing his new record, the seventy-year-old cyclist has a light fall less than halfway through his challenge.
The front wheel of Constantine’s bicycle went into one of the potholes he was trying hard to dodge as he made his way uphill.
He was not hurt and was able to finish the course on a second attempt.
Constantine told that after experiencing the fall he initially felt he would not be strong enough to complete the challenge but his determination to succeed saw him through.
Constantine said he has been cycling since 1961. (By Ashford Peters)
