Fifth Anniversary of Shafia London Business Challenge Launched at Girls’ High School
The St. Vincent Girls’ High School has officially launched the Fifth anniversary of the Shafia London Business Challenge, reaffirming its commitment to developing confident, innovative, and business-minded young women through hands-on learning.
Headmistress C. Latoya De Roche-John welcomed students, teachers, mentors, and invited guests, highlighting the importance of initiatives that extend learning beyond the traditional classroom. She noted that the Business Challenge allows students to engage in real-world experiences that promote discipline, teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking, while supporting the school’s mission of holistic education.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Hon. Laverne King, expressed strong support for the initiative and for co-curricular activities within schools. She emphasized the role of entrepreneurship in building independence, patience, and essential life skills, encouraging students to believe in their ideas and remain committed to their goals.
Founder and main sponsor of the initiative, Shafia London-Williams, described the programme as more than a competition, explaining that it was designed to teach students real-life skills that are not always found in textbooks. Through the challenge, students learn time management, accountability, resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving, all while balancing their academic responsibilities.
London-Williams encouraged participants to embrace challenges, learn from failure, and remain committed to growth, reminding them that the experience is about building confidence, character, and capability — not just winning prizes.
