Sion Hill pannists get much needed support

2 Min Read

Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra had a great carnival again this year winning the St Vincent Panorama 2018 competition and adding to their legacy.

This winning streak is not new and came as a result of hard work and dedication. The group has won several times prior to this year, including last year when they won in the junior category.

More importantly, the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra’s legacy is about uplifting the standard of steel pan music by training and developing the youth in the art-form in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is for these reasons that CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has thrown its support behind Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra.

Shelly Ann Samuel, Country Head of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank said, “We at CIBC FirstCaribbean felt it important to support Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra not only as an investment in sustaining the pan culture but also because their team leaders work assiduously to offer opportunities to develop young people in this community in this very important art-form.”

She added that the steel orchestra was “creating a wonderful opportunity for young people interested in building a positive image, developing cultural awareness and ensuring the art of steel pan continues.”

Warren Knights, chairman and manager of Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra said”the donation comes at a time when the money is most needed.

We know that many times more is needed, so we are most grateful to CIBC FirstCaribbean for their tangible support of $1000 as it will go a long way towards the development of our young pannists, which will help us move forward positively.”
