Desron “Skinny” Patterson a 24-year-old farmer from the community of Fitzhughes on the North Leeward Coast has been ordered to pay a fine of $6,000.00 by November 29th, 2018 or face a one-year jail term.
Patterson was charged with possession of 8 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply to another at Fitzhughes beach on January 13th, 2018.
The sentence was handed down on Monday, August 13th, 2018 by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne at the Serious Offences Court after she convicted Patterson for the offence.
Patterson’s arrest stemmed from a beach patrol which was carried out by the members of the Rapid Response Unit and other officers.
The Court heard that on the date in question the Officers saw Patterson standing on the beach with a nap sack on his back and upon recognizing the officers whom he is familiar with, made his escape via sea water dropping the backpack on the seashore.
The officers went to Patterson’s home where they detained him.
Patterson was told by the Chief Magistrate that it was because of his pregnant common-law wife that she did not impose a custodial sentence.
