Boat collision at Anse Cochon
A tragic marine collision at Anse Cochon, St Lucia, has claimed the lives of two young Saint Lucians, leaving the nation in mourning as search and rescue operations continue for several others.
The incident, which occurred recently, resulted in the confirmed deaths of Mhakeida Nestor and Debbie Dolor. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals sustained injuries, and an active search is currently underway for those still reported missing at sea.
Police said the collision occurred at about 11:55 p.m on Saturday and involved the vessel Ocean Angel and the pirogue Mango Tours.
Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre issued an official statement on July 19, 2025, expressing “profound sadness” over the event.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Mhakeida Nestor and Debbie Dolor,” the Prime Minister stated, adding that the nation prays for the families’ strength during this period of “immense grief”.
The Prime Minister also offered well wishes for the full and speedy recovery of those injured in the crash. He highlighted the “professionalism, courage and dedication” of the emergency responders, specifically commending the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the Coast Guard, and medical personnel for their work under extremely difficult conditions.
Investigations are currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the collision. The Government has committed to continuing its support for both the emergency response and the official inquiry.
