St. Lucia has entered into a bilateral agreement with the United States to accept a small number of migrants under a third-country nationals program.
Starting with an initial group of six individuals, the island nation plans to host up to ten people every quarter over the next two years.
Government officials emphasized that these individuals are not criminals but are being relocated due to administrative immigration issues in the U.S. that prevented them from gaining legal status.
In coordination with the International Organization for Migration, the government will offer these migrants the choice to either return to their home countries or legally integrate into St. Lucian society.
This humanitarian initiative is framed as a commitment to human dignity and a reflection of the strong diplomatic partnership between the two countries.
