- Caesar welcomes Regional Cannabis Expansion in St. Kitts and Nevis
Speaking at the recently concluded Cannabis Festival hosted by the St. Kitts and Nevis Cannabis Authority, the Honourable Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture in St Vincent, praised the St. Kitts and Nevis Government’s hard work and dedication in joining the regional cannabis industry expansion initiative.
In 2018, legislation was passed in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to develop a sophisticated medicinal cannabis business. Over the previous five (5) years, the island has provided technical assistance to numerous member governments of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean governments (OECS). St Vincent and the Grenadines has successfully sold to Europe and is expecting a big revival in the business following the effects of the La Soufriere eruptions.
In his address at the St. Kitts and Nevis Cannabis Expo and Symposium under the topic “Innocent Plant,” the Minister emphasised the importance of the individual cannabis agencies’ ongoing interaction with their traditional cultivators across the region. He went on to say that many traditional cultivators have sought to diversify their output, and that some are now totally engaged in agricultural food production.
Hon. Caesar acknowledged that, long before the therapeutic benefits of cannabis were widely accepted, the Rastafari community referred to the plant as the “healing herb” of the nation. Members of the local Rastafarian community in St. Kitts and Nevis were there and actively participated in the talks.
The keynote presentation was made by the Honourable Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrence Drew, while remarks on the industry’s future were delivered by the Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggin.
