The tourism sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is experiencing significant momentum, evidenced by a robust first quarter in 2026 and the unveiling of a comprehensive future strategy designed to elevate the nation’s global standing.

During a recent press briefing at the Beachcombers Hotel, Shelley-Ann Fraser, Chairperson of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, announced that the industry continued to show positive growth during the first quarter of 2026. The nation welcomed an impressive 196,513 visitors, marking a notable increase over the corresponding period in 2025.

The yachting sector proved to be a standout performer during this period, recording a growth rate of 5.1%. Fraser noted that this exceptional performance further strengthens the Grenadines’ reputation as a premier yachting destination.

Adding to this positive outlook, incoming Chief Executive Officer Shafia London highlighted that stay-over arrivals have already risen by double digits over the past few years, driven by new airline routes and investments in hotel infrastructure.

To sustain and deepen this economic momentum, the Tourism Authority is pivoting toward a highly targeted future strategy. London outlined that her immediate mandate is twofold: driving visitor arrival growth and ensuring that the destination consistently exceeds visitor expectations from arrival to departure.

Rather than chasing mass tourism, the new strategy will focus on attracting specific, high-value visitors to prevent exploitation. “We want visitors who arrive with respect for our culture, our environment, and our people,” London explained.

This renewed strategic focus is being supported by broader collaborative campaigns across the government.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Donna Bascombe detailed the ongoing “Love SVG” initiative, an all-of-society approach aimed at upgrading the national tourism product and ensuring competitive readiness for the 2026–2027 season.
