St Vincent’s Argyle International Airport (AIA) has confirmed ongoing runway maintenance and repair activities following recent flight cancellations and operational adjustments, assuring passengers of continued safety and commitment to aviation standards.

On Saturday evening, an American Airlines flight to Miami was cancelled due to reported runway damage, with a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) restricting aircraft weighing over 225,000 lbs from landing.

Subsequently, Virgin Atlantic postponed its scheduled Sunday flight to St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

In an official release, AIA emphasized its proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance, stating that the airport continues to maintain critical airside infrastructure in full compliance with international aviation safety protocols.

The airport’s engineering, operations, and safety teams, supported by regional and international technical partners, are conducting comprehensive technical assessments and maintenance activities.

“As part of our commitment to safety, we took a precautionary measure to temporarily limit aircraft operating weights on Sunday, December 7, 2025, to facilitate necessary repair works,” the airport statement explained. Normal runway operations were fully restored by Monday, December 8, 2025.

Virgin Atlantic’s next flight to SVG is scheduled for Wednesday, as the airline’s Airbus aircraft, weighing over 500,000 lbs, was unable to operate under the temporary weight restrictions.
