The Belmont Volcano Observatory Upgrade and Handover
The newly renovated Belmont Volcano Observatory in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was official handover today.
This multi-phase modernization project was funded by a World Bank loan totaling nearly EC$4.7 million and serves as a cornerstone for national disaster risk reduction.
Construction for the recent expansion, which concluded in late 2025 despite environmental delays, was managed through the Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project (VEEP).
Government officials and disaster management leaders emphasize that these upgraded facilities provide local scientists with a superior environment for monitoring volcanic activity and safeguarding the public.
The successful completion of the site was a collaborative effort between international financiers, local agencies, and private contractors to improve regional resilience.
