St Vincent DPP Has [Nolle Prosequi] Charges Against Eight Protesters

St Vincent and the Grenadines Director of Public Prosecutions Sejilla Mc Dowall has Nolle prosequi the cases brought against eight persons who were charged with;

  1. Organising a public procession without notifying the Commissioner of Police at least 24 hours before the procession.
  2. Knowingly take part in a procession/meeting in contravention of section (5) 2 of the Public Order Act chapter 396.

The individuals are;

Colin Graham – Political Activist 

Robert King -Political Activist 

Tyrone James – Executive Member Opposition NDP

Adriana King – Teacher 

Kenson King – Social Activist

Joseph Da Silva – Social Activist

John Mofford – Opposition supporter 

Rohan Simmons – Opposition Supporter

Charges against all eight individuals fell under section (5) 1 and Section (5) 2 of the Public Order Act, chapter 396 of the laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines. 

The protest for which the eight were charged took place on July 29 and August 5, 2021, in the capital city Kingstown.

Nolle prosequi is a Latin phrase meaning “will no longer prosecute” or a variation on the same. It amounts to a dismissal of charges by the prosecution.
