- A FLASH-FLOOD WATCH IS EXTENDED FOR ST VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES UNTIL 12:00 NOON 19th DECEMBER 2023
Unstable conditions are affecting our islands and moderate to heavy showers, periods of light rain, occasional gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms will persist across St. Vincent & the Grenadines into tomorrow (Tuesday 19th December 2023).
Rainfall totals in excess of two inches (>50 mm) have already been recorded at various weather stations across the island.
In addition, there have been multiple reports of flooding and landslides in various communities and model guidance suggests that additional accumulations of 50 – 75mm (approximately 2-3 inches) with isolated higher amounts in mountainous areas are possible within the watch period.
Therefore, due to the already saturated nature of the soils, the Flash-Flood watch is extended until 12:00 noon, Tuesday 19th December 2023.
Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should be prepared.
A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of flooding during the watch period.
This flash-flood watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions warrant.
