The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has directed Star Broadcasting Corp Ltd to immediately cease broadcasting on its FM frequencies after finding that the radio station has been operating without a valid license for nearly six months.
In an official letter dated October 8, 2026, addressed to Star Broadcasting Corp Ltd Secretary Julian Francis, NTRC Secretary/Director Apollo Knights confirmed that the company does not currently possess a valid FM Radio Broadcast Licence and Frequency Authorization.
Consequently, the regulatory body required the company to stop transmitting on 98.3MHz and 104.7MHz immediately until it obtains approval from the Minister responsible for Telecommunications.
According to the NTRC, Star Broadcasting’s FM Radio License and Frequency Authorization officially expired on April 14, 2026. During a commissioners’ meeting on October 7, 2026, regulators noted that five months and twenty-three days had elapsed since the license expired, while the station continued operating without completing its relicensing requirements.
The Commission highlighted a long history of correspondence regarding the renewal process:
February 14, 2025: The NTRC first reminded Star Broadcasting to submit renewal applications well ahead of its April 2026 expiration.
November 13, 2025: The company submitted its initial relicensing applications.
May to October 2026: Star Broadcasting submitted multiple extension requests—dated May 6, July 21, August 18, September 10, and October 6 (via legal representative G. Grahame Bollers)—to submit required corporate documents.
A central issue cited by the NTRC is the company’s failure to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing from the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).
St Vincent Times understands that the radio station has already obtained a Certificate of Good Standing from the (CIPO).
Although the NTRC set a firm submission deadline of September 21, 2026, documents were only submitted to CIPO on October 1 and October 5, 2026. The Commission determined that these late submissions missed the regulatory deadline and made it impossible for Star Broadcasting to meet its own requested extension date of October 5, 2026.
The NTRC stated that transmissions on 98.3MHz and 104.7MHz must remain off the air until full authorization is granted.
