The government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is evaluating measures to shield students and educators from rising temperatures as climate conditions intensify across the nation.
Minister responsible for Climate Resilience Conroy Huggins announced that officials are examining facility adjustments to improve indoor cooling and maintain safe learning environments.
Huggins warned that climate change is already affecting the country, predicting days where classroom temperatures could become particularly high.
While acknowledging that facility modifications cannot all happen at once, Huggins assured that every effort will be made to protect the safety and well-being of teachers and students. However, government officials have not yet announced specific details regarding what exact cooling measures will be introduced, how they will be implemented, or a timeline for deployment
Huggins highlighted the broader environmental picture, describing the current climate pattern as the worst El Niño effect in living memory.
