St. Vincent and the Grenadines Joins CAF

The House of Assembly in St. Vincent and the Grenadines officially approved the nation’s entry into the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Prime Minister Godwin Friday championed this legislative move as a vital strategy to diversify national financing streams, strengthen the economy, and safeguard vulnerable citizens.

To formalize this partnership, the government must purchase 141 shares totaling over two million dollars within a strict thirty-day window.

While this initial investment does not automatically guarantee immediate project loans, it establishes eligibility to borrow significantly larger sums for critical infrastructure and sustainable development.

Although opposition lawmakers ultimately backed the measure, they raised valid financial anxieties regarding potential market-rate borrowing costs and how future funds will be deployed.
