Minister of Sports, Culture, Creative Industries, and Youth and Chairman of the National Independence Planning Committee Hon. Kaschaka Cupid officially launched the schedule of activities marking the nation’s 47th anniversary of independence.

Welcoming citizens locally and across the diaspora, Minister Cupid revealed this year’s official theme: “Hand in Hand, Uplifting Our Nation”.

He stressed that nation-building cannot be achieved by any single person, political party, community, or generation.

Instead, he advocated for intergenerational collaboration where young people learn from elders and elders embrace the energy and creativity of youth—alongside strong partnerships between citizens at home and abroad.

“Uplifting our nation calls us to unite in action,” Cupid stated, emphasizing the need to support farmers, fisherfolk, entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, vulnerable citizens, and young people.

Cupid outlined the official calendar of events for October, which includes:

October 3: Independence Funday and the 16th Annual “Kisses You” National Dance Festival

October 5: National Day of Prayer

October 21: Service of Thanksgiving

October 23: Sir Dwight Venner Memorial Independence Lecture

October 23–31: National Cultural Exhibition and Food Village at Heritage Square, showcasing local art, craft, and cuisine

October 27: National Independence Parade and Cultural Extravaganza at the Annisvale Sporting Complex

Cupid urged Vincentians to fly the national flag, support local businesses, celebrate cultural artists, and maintain the spirit of unity long after October ends.
