The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) today announced a landmark shift in its operational model, signaling a comprehensive digital transformation of the nation’s revenue and licensing infrastructure.

As part of a regional security standardization effort across the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the IRD has introduced a new, high-security motor vehicle license sticker system. This initiative replaces the legacy “manual punch-hole” stickers, which required law enforcement to inspect vehicles at close range to verify compliance.

The new stickers feature high-visibility digital printing, including the vehicle’s registration number, color, model, and specific expiration date. These features allow the Licensing Authority and the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force to verify a vehicle’s registration status from a distance of up to 100 feet.

By personalizing each sticker to the specific characteristics of a vehicle, the Department is effectively neutralizing registration fraud and the unauthorized “swapping” of stickers—a critical step in enhancing national road safety and compliance.

While the Department acknowledges the potential for initial “teething problems” during today’s launch, robust logistical measures are in place to support the transition.

To ensure a seamless transition and accommodate the adoption of this new technology, the Inland Revenue Department has officially extended the payment deadline for motor vehicle licenses to the end of the first week of February.

Motorists have been granted this additional week to complete their renewals, and the Department has coordinated with the police to ensure that no enforcement actions are taken against compliant citizens during this brief implementation grace period.
