St Vincent Joins Worldwide Observation Of Consumer Rights Day

St Vincent and the Grenadines is celebrating World Consumer Rights Day by joining a global campaign toward Building a Digital World Consumers can Trust.

The celebration is being led by the Consumer Affairs Department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Commerce.

 In collaboration with the National Consumers Association will be other key stakeholders including the Information Technology Service Division (ITSD), SVG Bureau of Standards and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Consumer organisations from around the world, in partnership with Consumers International, will be using World Consumer Rights Day as a platform to discuss the speed at which the digital economy is growing and the importance of consumer protection in the digital age.

As the Ministry charged with the responsibility to educate and protect the welfare of consumers, the Consumer Affairs Department will be joining the campaign with a number of planned activities aimed at increasing the awareness of consumers. These activities include:

An Address by the Minister with responsibility for Consumer Affairs, a march around Kingstown with various stakeholders depicting the theme, and an exhibition at the space of the old Treasury Building from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.

There would also be a panel discussion on the theme “Building a Digital World Consumers can Trust” on 19th March, 2017, letter Writing to Clubs and organizations soliciting their assistance in promoting and utilizing the topic during the year, dissemination of information to schools on the theme and organizing a competition to develop a Consumer Mascot.
