St Vincent and the Grenadines today through the St Vincent Cocoa Company launched the “Vincentian Chocolate” bar.
Speaking on the launch Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar, says this new inaitive will place the nation on the international stage, as a chocolate bar producing nation.
This project, the Minister said, started in 2010, and came about as a concept from the Armajaro Company. There was then the move to Ecom, after Armajaro left.
Caesar expressed thanks to Mr. Harry Marriott who is the owner of the SVG Cocoa Company for taking the initiative forward after Armajaro made its exit.
Caesar also recognized the hard work of farmers here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
He said there were many persons who thought that the project was not targeting agro-processing and only the production of the beans.
“However, the Minister said, “today Vincentians are proud, that we have now produced a chocolate bar”.
The Agriculture Minister speaking to farmers said, in the spirit of diversifying, he would like the farmers to explore opportunities of cultivating Cocoa, and entering into the Cocoa value chain.
The Vincentian Chocolate bar is now available at stores and supermarkets nationwide with plans soon for export.
