St. Vincent (SVG) has been approached by the United States government to accept refugees and migrants from third countries.

This was disclosed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for National Security St. Clair Leacock.

Leacock stated that SVG recently received a formal request to accept refugees.

Leacock said although the Prime Minister initially reported no such request, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has since confirmed the country is on the list of potential hosts.

Leacock emphasized that because OECS nations allow for the free movement of people, the islands must coordinate a collective regional response rather than acting individually.

The situation has been described as a diplomatic challenge that requires balancing local sovereignty with the significant influence of the United States.
