Key infrastructure and tourism projects across St. Vincent and the Grenadines have reportedly ground to a halt, with opposition members citing administrative inexperience as the primary cause.
Carlos James reported that the Fort Charlotte restorative project, originally scheduled for completion in 2025, has seen no work for eight to ten months and is unlikely to be ready for the 2026-2027 cruise season.
Other projects facing setbacks include:
- Arnos Vale Acute Referral Hospital: Reportedly delayed by over a year.
- Troumaca Bay Facility: James, the architect of the project, noted that despite secured World Bank funding and completed designs, no work has commenced past the promised six-month mark.
- Mount Wynne Beach: Planned expansions for bathroom facilities have not materialized.
James criticized the current government for a “lack of institutional knowledge” regarding how funding agencies like the World Bank operate, leading to a “trickle-down effect” of delays across multiple ministries.
