Water service across several communities in Saint Vincent has been severely disrupted following the passage of a tropical wave, leaving residents supplied by the Majorca Water Supply System completely without water.
An official release from the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) indicates that the dam at the Majorca Water Supply System has been completely inundated with silt, entirely preventing the abstraction of water.
Restoration efforts are underway, but officials state that the silt must be manually cleared before water abstraction can resume. Technical crews expect this manual clearance operation to take approximately two days to complete.
The severe weather conditions have caused operational challenges across multiple supply lines. Alongside Majorca, the Montreal and Mamoon Water Supply Systems have also been severely affected, leaving their supplied communities entirely without water.
Additionally, the Perseverance Water Supply System has been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure due to high turbidity levels to prevent potential contamination of the water supply. Technical crews have been deployed to clear affected systems and restore water supply as quickly as possible.
The CWSA warns that additional breakages within the distribution network may occur nationwide due to ongoing conditions. Members of the public are encouraged to contact the CWSA to report any local water outages or visible pipeline breakages.
While regularly scheduled solid waste collection services remain in effect, delays may occur in communities impacted by heavy flooding and road blockages. The CWSA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the inclement weather and thanked the public for their patience as monitoring and restoration efforts continue throughout the day.
