Town Warden Clatyon Burgin told the St Vincent Times on Friday that shop owners have accumulated debts of up to three-quarters of a million dollars, with individual merchants owing hundreds of thousands.

Burgin stated that revenues received as fees totaling $120 each month, or $5 per day, are utilised to assist keep the city clean because the KTB’s subvention goes towards salaries.

Burgin stated that KTB is considering amending vendor agreements, which might include a one-year term that may not be renewed if owing amounts are not paid.

In his budget statement, Finance Minister Camilo Gonsalves stated that a package of relief and waivers for Kingstown vendors will be announced on March 1, 2024.

Gonsalves noted that during the project’s early stages, an assessment of the arrears owed by vendors to the KTB was done, and as a result, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves asked officials to conduct a thorough examination of the amount owed.

According to the finance minister, the study is virtually complete, and a statement detailing some vendor relief would be issued in March.
