The Judicial and Legal Services Commission advises of the following appointment:
Her Ladyship, the Hon. Justice Rechanne Browne has been appointed as a High Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court with effect from 1st April 2024.
Justice Browne is assigned to the State of Saint Lucia where she has been serving in an acting capacity since December 2023.
Browne-Matthias received her early education at the Kingstown Preparatory School (KPS), Girls’ High School (GHS), and at the sixth form of the St. Vincent Grammar School. She then pursued legal studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados from 1995 to 1998.
After obtaining her LLB, she did her Master’s in Corporate Law in Nottingham, England in 1998, and her Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School the following year.
Browne-Matthias was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2000, and to the local Bar in September 2000. She then got involved in private legal practice until 2012 when she was appointed Acting President of the Family Court.
She was assigned as Magistrate of the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court in February 2103, following the retirement of then Senior Magistrate Donald Browne, who presided over that Court.
