St Vincent’s Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves is in Guyana for the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Heads of Government Conference.

Gonsalves was accompanied by his wife, Eloise Gonsalves, Minister Gustaus Stevenson, and one of his security personnel. The summit takes place in Georgetown, Guyana, from the evening of February 25th until the morning of February 28th, 2024.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana and the new Chair of CARICOM, will deliver the keynote presentation during the opening ceremony, setting the tone for the deliberations to come. He will be joined by CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett and Dominica’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

The agenda for the summit covers a wide range of important concerns, particularly citizen and regional security, which appears to be a regional concern. Other topics of debate include the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), climate change, the situation in Haiti, and global issues. Furthermore, discussions will centre on the execution of efforts to improve food security and intraregional commerce in the Caribbean.

Gonsalves will return to the state on Tuesday, July 27th.
