St Vincent’s new Prime Minister Godwin Friday addressed the election petition brought by the ULP as a reaction from political opponents who “can’t take their licks” and have a “grouse” following the election results.
He noted that while opponents “carried on” about these issues throughout the campaign, the electorate ultimately delivered what he described as the “biggest mandate ever” for his party.
Friday highlighted several points regarding the petition and his administration’s standing:
“The people’s decision to elect me as Prime Minister and Fitz Bramble as the representative for East Kingstown with a “bigger margin than ever” is a mandate that cannot be ignored. In my own constituency, 86% of the people voted for me as further evidence of this national support”.
He explicitly stated that his team will “defend the petitions” and intends to remain in office for as long as the people desire.
Friday believe the public was tired of the “arrogance and the bullying” of the previous administration, leading to a “national swing” that resulted in a historic 14-1 victory.
He emphasized that since the voters were aware of the opposition’s arguments during the campaign and still chose the NDP, the government is committed to delivering for the country.
