Sporting equipment and other related paraphernalia amounting to thirty-two thousand US dollars (USD 32,000) were donated to various organisations during a ceremony held at the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
This is the third donation originating from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Embassy in the Republic of China (Taiwan) through their Community Revitalization Sport and Culture initiative facilitated by the local embassy.
Beneficiary organisations included the Playaz Youth Academy and community-based sporting clubs: Greiggs Football Club, North Leeward Predators, and Diamonds Spartans. Additionally, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment also received a large cache of sporting equipment, including footballs, basketballs, ball pumps, and shin guards.
The event, which took place during the height of the Christmas season, was in the making months prior, as Ambassador H. E. Andrea Bowman alluded to in her remarks. Ambassador Bowman said “the strength and coherence of our communities, our communities’ ability to recognise the trust that is necessary within a community to make it strong, is vital to the rebuilding of St. Vincent and the Grenadines following the poly-crises that we have experienced.”
H.E. Ambassador Fiona Fan expressed her delight at the continued endearing friendship between the ROC Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The Ambassador said this country continues to pledge its unwavering support for Taiwan in the international arena.
The equipment was shipped from ROC Taiwan at an additional cost of thirty thousand US dollars, for a total value of just over sixty-two thousand US dollars (USD 62,000). The items were sourced from Taiwanese patrons as well as the Vincentian Diaspora residing in ROC Taiwan.
