On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Rural Transformation Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation, officially launched its Roots Youth in Agriculture Summer Programme 2026 which aims to provide young individuals with an engaging two-week experience curated to inspire young individuals in agriculture.
The programme runs from July 20–31, 2026, with a combination of classroom learning and practical hands-on activities. These sessions will expose participants to the different opportunities available within the agriculture sector.
The sessions include artificial intelligence in agriculture, grafting, home garden design, soil analysis, drip irrigation, hydroponics, livestock production, value-added food processing, agro-based craft production and digital content creation.
Educational field visits and recreational activities also form part of the end of the programme, offering participants an exposed learning experience.
In attendance at the opening ceremony were Senior Technical Officer within the Rural Transformation Unit, Mrs. Currel Thompson-Fergus, Permanent Secretary (Ag.) of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Rural Transformation, Mr. Colville King and Chief Agricultural Officer (Ag.), Mr. Marcus Richards.
The Rural Transformation Unit aims to equip participants with practical agricultural knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and an exposure for innovation and technology in modern farming. Through this programme, the Ministry continues to encourage greater youth involvement in agriculture.
In addition, POSHELLE is a collaborator of the Roots Youths in Agriculture Summer Programme 2026.
