St Vincent’s Minister of Health Daniel Cummings on Friday addressed the reported increase in flies in Kingstown, noting that the issue is not a new phenomenon.
According to the Minister, the problem is fundamentally linked to sanitation. To address this, several initiatives are expected to be launched soon.
The Minister expressed specific concern regarding how restaurants manage the waste emanating from their kitchens, identifying this as a significant contributor to the problem.
Cummings said Improving the country’s drainage systems is seen as a priority, a matter that has become even more pertinent due to the ongoing construction of the new port.
The Ministry of Health intends to address these sanitation matters through a collaborative effort with the Central Water and Sewage Authority and the sanitation department.
While the Minister acknowledged the current situation, he emphasized that these upcoming cleanup initiatives and systemic improvements in drainage and waste handling are the primary methods the government will use to resolve the issue.
