One hundred and fifty-five (155) applicants between the ages of 18 and 34 who submitted an application and were successful gathered at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Campus in Villa for an orientation session.
Chairman of the ON-SITE steering committee Mr. Nigel Scott told the interns to use their experience as interns to boost their resumes. He encouraged them to use the soft skills and opportunities to help develop their lives and livelihood.
Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) H.E. Fiona Huei-Chun Fan congratulated the interns and encouraged them to make the best of these moments to develop their personal lives and skills. Ambassador Fan thanked the business entities involved for their support in transforming the lives of Vincentians.
Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Information Technology Hon. Camillo Gonsalves said the Government is committed to supporting the country’s development by investing in its youth and their education. Minister Gonsalves noted that of the over 100 hundred applicants last year, forty-two (42) are now permanently employed.
The Finance Minister encouraged the interns to take the training seriously as the knowledge gained will help in their careers and self-development
Mr Dimitri Roberts of Cohort 1 spoke of his experiences and encouraged the interns to think of this of a `win-win’ situation. He asked of them to believe in themselves as much as the Government and its partners has for them to be at this juncture. Mr. Roberts was placed at Sagicor Insurance Ltd for his 6-month internship and was kept on.
The interns are receiving soft skills training, professional development and occupational health and safety training at the orientation session.
