- Japan Grants $5.6 M To Upgrade Seafood Processing Facilities in SVG
The construction of the Barrouallie Black Fish Processing Facility will be completed with a financial allocation of $1.6 million from the 2024 Budget.
The establishment, which is the first seafood processing plant exclusively focused on a singular species of marine life, will enhance the management, processing, preservation, and promotion of Blackfish and its associated derivatives, within the local and regional contexts.
The Japanese Government, having actively collaborated in the establishment of the Barrouallie Blackfish Processing Plant, has recently decided to provide a grant of $5.6 million for the procurement of equipment for the fisheries subsector.
This grant will exclusively support the Kingstown Fish Market and the Barrouallie Blackfish Facility.
The acquisition of equipment such as refrigeration systems, ice makers, sealers, vacuum packers and lifts this year would improve the quality and export capacity of seafood from the island.
Barrouallie is the town with the highest population in Saint Patrick Parish. The area is well-known for its fishing industry and is particularly celebrated for its abundant population of “Blackfish“.
