Roxell John, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Vincy Soccer Premier League (VSPL), describes VSPL as a “new and improved football product” for the nation’s tier-one clubs.
His remarks focused on the transition toward semi-professionalism, the specific enhancements to the league, and the challenges faced during the organization process.
John framed the launch as a period of “change and advancement” that the country should gleefully embrace. He explicitly stated that the ultimate goal of this new vision is for the competition to evolve into a “fullyfledged semi-professional football league” in the not-too-distant future.
He outlined several specific upgrades that the VSPL will offer to clubs and fans to enhance the sport’s marketability and sustainability:
Financial Incentives: The league will feature “increased winnings for all clubs” and “daily awards to outstanding performers”.
Presentation and Marketing: He promised a “rigorous marketing and expanding program” alongside “new aesthetically pleasing event presentations”.
Collaboration: He highlighted improved logistical support and relations between the organizers, the SVG Football Federation, and sponsors.
John provided a candid assessment of the five-month preparation period, admitting it had not been a “smooth journey”.
He cited delays, “painstaking decision-making processes,” and disappointments for players and fans. However, he used a metaphor to justify these struggles, stating, “stars cannot shine without darkness,” implying that the challenges were necessary to produce a better final product.
