Today, August 1st, 2019, Mrs. Susan Dougan, OBE, of Ratho Mill makes history as St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ first Female Governor-General.
An educator by profession, Mrs. Dougan holds an MA (ED) Curriculum and Evaluation from the University of Southampton, Berkshire, England.
She is a Former Headmistress of the St. Vincent Girls High School from 200, 2004; and Chief Education Officer from 2004- 2009.
She was the first female Cabinet Secretary to serve under the Unity Labour Party Government from October 2009 —September 2013.
Mrs. Dougan has also served in several other national capacities such a, focal Point for the Organisation of American States for St. Vincent & the Grenadines; Focal Point for Commonwealth of Learning for St. Vincent & the Grenadines; and Chief Shelter Manager for St. Vincent & the Grenadines, just to name a few.
She’s a member of Soroptimist International — SVG Chapter, a nonprofit organization for women that promotes gender equality through women’s education and mentorship.
She was awarded by a Special Commemorative Stamp Issue for the Centennial Celebrations of the St. Vincent Girls High School in 2011.
Former Governor-General Frederick Ballantyne has demitted office due to health reasons.
