Senior officials from the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines recently convened a series of high-level meetings with representatives of the World Bank to discuss priority development initiatives, bolster economic resilience, and refine sustainable growth strategies.

These discussions, aimed at fortifying the nation’s fiscal and social infrastructure, were highlighted during a formal reception and cultural evening held at the Holiday Inn and Suites on Friday, January 23, 2026.

During the reception, World Bank Executive Director Mr. Abdelhak Bedjaoui emphasized that the primary purpose of the visit was “…to listen, to learn and to further strengthen the partnership between St. Vincent and Grenadines and the World Bank Group.” This approach signals a shift toward a more integrated partnership model, characterized by active listening rather than passive observation. According to Mr. Bedjaoui, the delegation gained critical insights into:

• Operational Success: Identifying specific programs and initiatives that have demonstrated measurable success within the Vincentian landscape.

• Targeted Improvement: Pinpointing areas where existing frameworks can be refined for greater efficiency and reach.

• Strategic Alignment: Ensuring that World Bank support is precisely aligned with the established national development priorities of the government.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday underscored the importance of this direct engagement, highlighting the necessity for the World Bank to recognize the immediate challenges facing the country. In his address regarding the discussions, the Prime Minister stated:

“At the very highest level, it is an opportunity for us, to engage in a way that impresses upon the directors who are here, the urgency of the needs that we encounter in our country. The desire for a continued and effective partnership. in meeting those challenges that we have.”
