As of midday Thursday, Star Radio, broadcasting under the legal corporate entity Star Broadcasting Corporation Ltd and operating as the primary opposition radio station in St. Vincent had ceased transmission across both its FM radio frequency and its online streaming services.

The operational halt follows the formal statutory expiration of the station’s FM Radio Broadcast License and Frequency Authorization on April 14, 2026, coupled with what the NTRC in a release said was its failure to rectify corporate non-compliance with the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

In response to widespread public discussion regarding the broadcaster’s off-air status, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) issued a public clarification on October 13, 2026.

Signed by NTRC Director Apollo Knights, the official release established a formal factual record detailing the station’s legal standing and the statutory mechanics governing telecommunications authorizations. The clarification highlighted an administrative renewal cycle spanning 20 months, originating on February 14, 2025—14 months prior to the license expiration date—when the regulator first formally alerted the company to its upcoming renewal requirements.

Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves on Wednesday issued a direct challenge to regulatory authorities and government prosecutors over a cease-and-desist directive issued to STAR FM, declaring that as the sole trustee of the station, any legal action or prosecution must be directed personally at him.
