Government Consults Cruise Sector Stakeholders on Proposed Partnership with GPH
The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive and competitive cruise tourism industry through extensive consultations with key stakeholders on the proposed partnership between the Government and Global Ports Holding.
The meeting provided stakeholders with an update on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Global Ports Holding. It created an opportunity for participants to share feedback, raise concerns, and offer recommendations on the proposed partnership.
Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr. Kishore Shallow said the Government remains committed to ensuring that the partnership delivers meaningful benefits for Vincentians.
“This partnership with Global Ports Holding represents a transformational opportunity for our cruise industry, but its true success will be measured by the extent to which it benefits our people,” the Minister said.
“The consultation was about listening to the voices of those who are the backbone of the cruise sector — our vendors, tour operators, taxi drivers, artisans, businesses and community stakeholders. Their insights are essential as we build a modern, competitive and inclusive cruise destination.”
The Minister added that the Government is focused on ensuring the partnership creates sustainable economic opportunities while strengthening the country’s position within the regional cruise industry.
“We are committed to ensuring that this partnership delivers sustainable economic growth, creates new opportunities for Vincentians, and strengthens our position as one of the Caribbean’s premier cruise destinations,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of stakeholder engagement, Minister Shallow noted that tourism development must always place people at its centre.
“Tourism is fundamentally about people. Infrastructure and investment are important, but they must ultimately improve livelihoods and enhance the visitor experience. Through open dialogue and collaboration, we can ensure that this partnership reflects our national aspirations while preserving the unique character and hospitality that define our country.”
The consultation brought together representatives from across the cruise sector, including members of the Taxi Association, tour operators, hoteliers, vendors, artisans and other tourism stakeholders. Government representatives included the Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. Kishore Shallow; the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Dr. Donna Joyette-Bascombe; Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority, Shafia London; and Solicitor General, Cerepha Harper-Joseph.
The consultation forms part of the Government’s ongoing engagement with stakeholders as discussions continue on the proposed partnership with Global Ports Holding. Feedback received during the session will help inform the next steps in the process as the Government works to ensure the partnership supports sustainable tourism development and delivers long-term benefits for the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
