St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) was among the (Alba-TCP) countries that congratulated Venezuela on the return of Venezuelan ambassador Alex Saab to his homeland on Thursday.
The international body, in an official communiqué, condemned the illegal kidnapping of the diplomat in the United States for more than three and a half years.
“It was a procedure contrary to international law and in contravention of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, thus setting a painful precedent by violating the diplomatic principles that the International Community recognises and respects,” according to the document.
According to the statement, “The victory of the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace of the Government of President Nicolás Maduro Moros is a further demonstration that the path we have taken in our America is destined to continue on the path of triumphs and guarantees the prosperity of our free and sovereign peoples.”
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has repeatedly condemned the illegal detention of ambassador Saab in Cabo Verde on June 12, 2020, and his transfer to the United States on October 16, 2021.
These were “acts of criminalization against the entire Venezuelan people, through violations of human rights and international law,” according to the Venezuelan government, which verified the diplomat’s release the day before.
Several celebrities from around the world have spoken out in support of the diplomat’s release and the historic achievement of Bolivarian diplomacy.
Among those who have expressed solidarity are Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodrguez, Iranian Ambassador to Venezuela Hojat Soltani, sociologist, professor, and communicator Anbal Garzón, political scientist Katu Arkonada, MEP Manu Pineda, and Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet.
