St Vincent’s Commissioner of Police Enville Williams has expressed strong support for Minister of National Security St Clair Leacock’s focus on improving police housing.
The Commissioner stated that having adequate facilities allows officers to focus entirely on the “business of securing the Vincentian public” rather than having to worry or “look over [their] shoulders” regarding their own living and working environments.
Speaking in Barrouallie, Williams advocated for a “holistic security situation”. This approach involves working together with both civilian leadership and the police directorate. Incorporating fire services and returning the marine unit (Coast Guard) to the Barrouallie area.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of returning the Coast Guard to Barrouallie specifically because it is a fishing community.
“Having the Coast Guard positioned at the “water’s edge” provides peace of mind to fisherfolk, ensuring that if they run into difficulty at sea, help is immediately available.”
The Commissioner says the police stand ready to continue shouldering their responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment for all Vincentians on both land and sea.
