In 2024, there will be heightened maritime security and surveillance along the Leeward coast of mainland St. Vincent and in the Grenadines (SVG) for yachtsmen.

The statement was made by Carlos James, the Minister of Tourism, on Tuesday (23) during his State of the Tourism Industry Address.

James mentioned that the yachting tourist sector in the destination is making a strong recovery. However, there will be heightened monitoring due to the establishment of a Coast Guard sub-base on the Leeward side of the island.

“We are actively growing in the tourism sub-sector and it is crucial for us to prioritise the safety of our visitors to our destination.”

According to James, the establishment of a Coast Guard sub-base on the sheltered side of the island will enhance security and monitoring measures for boats.

He noted that increased surveillance will also be implemented in the Northern and Southern Grenadines, subsequent to the recent reestablishment of the sub-base on Bequia.
