The Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines is set to rebuild and repair over 5 hundred and 50 homes affected by the April 2021 eruptions of La Soufriere.
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves made this pronouncement recently noting that the Ministry of Transport and Works has done an extensive assessment of communities in the red zone, and houses have fallen under a 4 tier system in terms of rehabilitation.
Level one is where there is minimal damage, level two is damage but renovative work needs to be carried out, level three is where there is some structural damage and areas of the house have to be repaired while, level 4 is where the structural integrity of the building is compromised and rebuilding or relocation is necessary.
Regarding certain areas of Sandy Bay, some homes will have to be relocated and according to Prime Minister Gonsalves, Government has earmarked 5 acres of land at Orange Hill to be bought for the reconstruction of approximately 40 homes.
The Prime Minister was speaking last Friday July 30th on NBC radio when he made the announcements.
Extensive cleaning continues in communities of the Red Zone as people begin to move back to their respective homes.
