Invest SVG and Luxembourg-based real estate developer Nativo Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance the development of SOMA Mayreau, a proposed US$100 million eco-resort and environmental conservation initiative on the Grenadine island of Mayreau.
The agreement, signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 30, 2026, establishes a formal framework for cooperation between the national investment promotion agency and the developer.
SOMA Mayreau is envisioned as a 100+ key hospitality destination featuring guestrooms, hotel villas, wellness facilities, dining options, and marine experiences.
The project will be 100% privately financed through a combination of foreign private investment and commercial bank financing, requiring no government funding. Construction is scheduled across a 24-month duration.
Throughout the construction phase, the project is designed to support local employment, skills training, and purchasing from local vendors. Once operational, the resort aims to drive year-round demand for local transport, marine services, food and beverage suppliers, and the broader Grenadines tourism economy.
Alongside the resort development, Nativo Group has prepared an integrated water, waste, and resource management strategy aimed at reducing waste at the source and retaining useful materials on Mayreau.
The developer has also proposed several community-oriented initiatives, including:
- Restoration of the historic Mayreau Parish Church complex
- Infrastructure projects for water and energy resilience
- Village improvements, local food production initiatives, environmental restoration, and apprenticeship programs
Priority actions for these community initiatives will be determined through direct community consultation.
The Hon. Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, Minister of Foreign Investment with oversight of Invest SVG, emphasized the necessity of safeguarding Mayreau’s unique character.
“Mayreau is one of the treasures of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Any significant investment on the island must respect its character, its environment and, above all, the interests of its people,” Minister Bramble stated. “What is encouraging about the SOMA Mayreau proposal is the attention being given to the responsibilities that come with developing on a small island. Reliable infrastructure, responsible waste and water management, jobs and training, while providing a meaningful voice for residents that must be part of that work.”
Danny Germaine, Chief Executive Officer of Nativo Group, highlighted the long-term intent behind the development.
“The measure of success cannot simply be the hotel we create. If we are going to build and operate here for the long term, the investment has to create meaningful opportunities for the people already living and working on Mayreau,” Germaine noted. “We want SOMA to contribute positively to the island, economically, environmentally and as part of the community.”
