St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union President Oswald Robinson on Wednesday said a fully vaccinated teacher died, however at a press conference a Union official said the teacher Andre Lewis took only the first dose of the COVID vaccine.
The Union official also said following the first dose the teachers health went downhill.
“One unfortunate situation, a teacher, died on Tuesday from the Stubbs Primary School. I am not going to get into the details, but it is something that the Ministry of Health should speak about it”, Robinson said.
Robinson had stated on Wednesday morning that the teacher died at the hospital.
Speaking to the teachers’ strike action, Robinson said the Union’s call for educators to protest the mandatory vaccination went reasonably well.
‘We had about 50 percent of schools participating. In fact, at one school there 85 percent of teachers were off the job.”
“There are all kinds of propaganda being used to frighten the teachers and frustrate the fight that we are engaged in; however, we are resolute”.
Robinson said students had to forfeit exams at one school on the island’s Windward side because of their vaccine status.
“We have information that at a school in North Central Windward, the children were told they could not do their exams because they were not vaccinated”.
Robinson said he expects the participation in strike action to be much better today. The Union has called protest action for Friday in Capital City Kingstown.
