SVG continues to increase production in the agriculture sector. With the cannabis discussion intensifying as the medical cannabis industry takes off in SVG, other commodities are showing great possibilities.
The island is set to export a 40 foot container of tumeric next week. This commodity which was once grown nationally by the Organisation for Rural Development (ORD) is showing great promise internationally.
The prospects for the crop is grounded in the claim by many that tumeric as a health food helps to fight cancer.
Hon. Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar, noted that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to search for new markets.
He thanks Nick Bernal of Seasons Fresh foods for assisting with the marketing of the commodity and local farmers for participating in the project.
During 2019 more farmers are expected to join the move to increase the production of tumeric in SVG.
